New IHOPE Publication on the Jet Stream and European Climate

A new paper has been published in Nature and co-authored by IHOPE SSC member Fredrik Chapentier Ljungqvist. The paper “Jet stream controls on European climate and agriculture since 1300 ce” highlights how variations in the jet stream have influenced European climate and agriculture for centuries. The study uses historical and environmental data to show that changes in the jet stream’s patterns affect weather patterns, crop yields, and climate stability. Understanding these shifts is crucial for predicting future climate impacts and helping shape adaptive strategies for agriculture and environmental management in the context of ongoing climate change.
